Excavator Pump Is The Core of The Hydraulic System

An excavator pump is the heart of the machine's hydraulic system. It's responsible for converting mechanical power from the engine into hydraulic power, which drives the excavator's various functions like digging, scooping, and lifting heavy materials. There are two main types of pumps used in excavators:

1.Main Pump:The main pump is a high-power pump that provides the majority of the hydraulic flow for the excavator's working functions. It's directly connected to the engine and can be a fixed or variable displacement pump. A fixed displacement pump always delivers the same amount of fluid per revolution, while a variable displacement pump can adjust its output based on the operator's needs. This allows for more precise control and better fuel efficiency.

2.Pilot Pump :The pilot pump is a smaller pump that works alongside the main pump. As mentioned previously, it serves two main purposes.

(1)Energy Efficiency:During low-flow situations, the pilot pump allows the main pumps to shut down to conserve energy. The pilot pump itself is capable of supplying enough hydraulic fluid to operate the excavator's control functions without needing the high-power main pumps.

(2)Pilot Control:The pilot pump also provides hydraulic fluid to operate the excavator's control system. This system uses pressure and flow to move the spools in the main hydraulic control valve. These spools then direct the high-pressure flow from the main pumps to the excavator's actuators, which power the arm, bucket, tracks and swing mechanism. Pilot pumps are typically gear pumps because they are low cost, reliable and well suited for providing low pressure, high volume flow.
